Luiz Bonf (1922-2001) is one of the most influential Brazilian guitarists and composers. An emblematic figure of the bossa nova movement, he helped bring Brazilian music to the world in the late 1950s and 1960s. Bonf gained international fame through his work on Black Orpheus, which won an Oscar in the category “Best Foreign Language Film”. Trained in classical guitar, he develops a very personal style, combining technical precision and deep lyricism. His music bridges Brazilian rhythms, jazz harmony and classical sensitivity. Beyond his famous bossa nova works, albums like Introspection reveal a more intimate and introspective facet of his art. First released in 1972, Introspection is considered one of Luiz Bonf’s most beautiful and accomplished recordings. Recorded almost entirely alone, the album reveals rare intimacy, high accuracy and intense emotional depth. Bonf’s virtuosity is reflected in each note, mixing with deep expressiveness the classical technique and the Brazilian rhythm.
